Cleobury were unfortunately not able to field a full XV but the teams were evened up to 14 v 13 with the loan of a Bewdley player and some boots.
Bewdley started with the kick-off in to the wind. Cleobury attacked well and had a particularly strong scrummage. Bewdley however responded well with some good improvised open play. Cleobury opened the
scoring mid way through the first half with a well kicked penalty. Bewdley replied almost immediately with a fantastic try from inside centre Alan Banks who took the ball from the half way line and took Cleobury's
backs on the outside to run the try in close to the posts. The try was converted by prop Darren Hughes.
Close to half time Cleobury took the ball in the backs to score an unconverted try in the corner. This left the half time score 7-8 to Cleobury.
The second half was very similar to the first with good competition between the sides. A leg injury to Bewdley's Tight-Head prop allowed Cleobury capitalise more on their superiority in the scrummage to
score two more tries, both converted.
However Bewdley were not willing to go down without a fight and Alan Banks scored his second try of the game with a jinking run through the middle of the Cleobury players close to full time. Darren Hughes
converted again to maintain his 100% kicking record this season. This made the full time score 14-22 to Cleobury
This was an impressive display from the side near extinction only a few weeks ago. The new players gelled with the squad almost immediately to provide a new prop, number 8, scrum-half and fly-half. Several
old players also returned to bolster the squad.
